The most notable (and namesake) feature of his new "Highrider" blue jeans is the high rise; Marlon Brando and James Dean would be more comfortable in these than in most contemporary jeans. Next are the zipper fly and sanforized (shrink proof) denim. Although a button fly and shrink-to-fit denim are the default features in vintage-inspired jeans today, it's worth remembering that zippers and non-shrinking denim were thought of as superior technologies when they were introduced to jeans in the first half of the 20th century.

One detail you don't notice -- because it doesn't exist -- is external branding. There's no leather patch on the waistband or stitching on the back pockets, and even the rivets and waist button are blank. We asked Oliver about the notable absence of decoration. "The lack of markings and branding is very purposefully done. We tried different things like a patch made from US Military chino but nothing was subtle enough. In the end we made them the way we would like to wear them. No one needs to know where they came from, they just need to know that they fit right."

At the same time, they're not blank or sterile. The US-made Cone Mills denim is of superior quality, the waistband is lined with 10 oz. cotton twill, and the pocket bags are made from WWII-era bed linens from the Swiss army.
